Project Evaluation

Project Evaluation

When starting this project I felt excited about learning a culture I knew nothing about, I was shocked about the things I found out about 1930’s Berlin. I wasn’t excited about doing the historical one but tried to develop it in my own way incorporating the historical but adding my dark side into it. I realised when giving my notes to other people to do you have to included every single little detail and can’t miss a single thing out. Working on men’s hair was a first for me at first I did struggle but after a few attempts and trying different projects I’ve learnt techniques on how to handle it. The makeup manipulating the face I loved doing making his face thinner to look more sinister.  I’m pleased with how my historical image of the Emcee turned out. It really gives the eerie appearance I wanted it to.
Doing the historical look of my partners went smoothly apart from on the day I did have a problem with the curl but managed to fix it for the photo and kept stepping in. I believe I was professional with my application and with interacting with the model.
I was so excited to start the contemporary image and had so many ideas! After watching party monster I knew straight away what scene I wanted to do and that it had to be Sally Bowles. The way the film was really inspired me to look more at the clubs that would be around today and how people acted within that scene today, I was shocked to find it was still the same. I loved experimenting with the glitter and trying different techniques on how to apply it to the skin. I really struggled with the balance of making a club kid but still keeping the element of fame and glamour. Overall I believe I achieved that.
My hair has to be my favourite of my design it took me an hour and a half just to prep but the final result was so worth it, it just makes the picture. The hair was made to look like a big fur collar on the fur coat I bought for my model to wear. I learnt how to do face charts better this year and think they portray my ideas a lot better, I was able to really show where I wanted things to blend and be sharp with the use of makeup. I wish we had learnt more hairstyles within our hair classes and how to create 1930’s styles.  I really enjoy learning and feel I would have really benefited from this.
I recently learnt how to create a moving picture so thought I’d try to do this for my contemporary image as it was something a little different. It turned out really well apart from the quality and really shows the character and personality I wanted my Sally Bowles to have.

Overall this semester has been interesting I’ve learnt more knowledgeable things than skills and techniques. I had more fun doing the historical as this is the first times the reins were taken off what we could do.

Black and White Pictures Contemporary Berlin

We were given the task to go out into southampton at take pictures of what we thought represented a contemporary berlin. We had to take these pictures in black and white.

I really like the angle of this picture and how many bikes there are. It really shows how are culture has changed with means of transport, a selfish way of transportation?

Final Images Contemporary

I recently learnt how to make a moving picture so I thought it would be a great way to show different angles of my Contemporary makeup design.

Paco Peregrin

I found this designer/makeup/hair artist while looking for influential images for my Club culture design. His imagery and styling of hair is so amazing and how I would love my design to turn out.
Below are a few pictures that really appealed to me. The first on I like how he's created an earring using hair. The texture he used on the hair is fascinating it almost doesn't even look like hair but fluff instead.

Glitter!

Since this project I've been obsessed with glitter. I've bought many glitters just to find the right one for my design and what will work the best.

(left to right)
Silver- this glitter is small particles and only one colour it does reflect the light well though.
Gold- This glitter is a mixture of gold and holographic medium hexagon this works well at covering large areas.
Pink- This glitter is finely milled and is like typical fairy dust using this would take time to cover an area but would look good in spots just to add colour and a different dimension.
Gold- This glitter is just gold and sometimes just looks flat again a perfect consistency for covering a large area.
Holographic- This is fine holographic glitter my favourite! I love what the light does to this mixed with the first glitter this would work well at covering large spaces.
Gel Glitter- This is a wet formulation and if applied too much goes bitty and clumpy. not good for large spaces put ace for creating sharp glitter lines.

I then went crazy (haha) and added all the glitter together to see whether this would look good for my final design.

I love it,  however I don't think I will included the gold into my design as I want it to be more silver.
I'm so excited now to do my design and finally see all the pieces come together.

Working on final makeup look

I needed to test the makeup out on the model and incorporate the comments I was given in my feedback. I wanted to test these out and see how it went.

The eyeshadow extended up does give it more definition, and shows the look off more. I think however I need to blend it out a bit so it doesn't look like two circles on her face. I am going to add white in the waterline as well as adding lashes to give them a longer length. I much prefer the lips like this its interesting and gives that element of glamour still to the look. I've also decided to bring the glitter from the ear up into the hairline. LOTS OF GLITTER!!

Fashion Shows With Glitter Necks

I thought it would be a good idea to have a look at makeup designs for fashion shows that included a glitter neck in their design and how they have gone about it.

Juliana Forge at the Myer Spring/Summer 2010

I like how this one is brought up into the hair line i will try this.

This fine glitter is just beautiful  how finely milled it is and how  gorgeous it looks in the light.

Lips Lips Lips!!!

When I did my presentation I was told to think about the lips more and create a different design. My first step PINTEREST!
I had a look and found a few designs then based mine around them.

I then drew a few ideas before I practiced.

My favourite from just practising is the wonky top lip one (top middle). It reminds me of surrealism which was a big movement in the 1920's. I will practice this these lips on my final design

Presentation Feedback

Overall everyone seemed to like the concept behind my design and how the hair will be made to loo like a fur collar.

A few pointers were given to me which I need to work on.

- Make sure the look stays extreme. (this is based on my makeup work as it may turn out looking too pretty)
- Stronger Lips
- Extend eyeshadow up, lets see it more!!
- Try different eyebrow looks (make them stronger and going out more. )

Practising Final Design

Practising Hair Charts

The first look I tried out was the Anita Berber one. I did one side frizzy around grips the other side I did in pin curls. As you can see the bottom two pictures are the pin curls they just didn't work very well. As soon as i was the frizz one I thought of FUR. in my scene sally is wearing a fur coat this would look so good and work as a fur collar.

I tried the aqua colours on the hair it was hard to do that may have just been because i was doing it by myself.  I didn't like the result after I finished. (please excuse my awful face!) I think with what I want to do with the makeup this would just be too much.

Initial Hair Charts

I created these hair charts with a mind of some images I had already seen and ones that inspired me.

My first design was incorporating finger waves, I thought have the hair straight on the bottom would be a dramatic difference however I don't like how it's turned out. It reminds me of a man with no hair on the top of his head!

This look was a modern slick pony tail but bring in the 1920's element with the Marcel waves at the front of the hair. I want to paint this on using aqua colours.

This hair style is a longer version of Anita Berbers hairstyle however I don't know how tight I want to do the curls so this is something I need to test.
