1920's hair on men was slick, flat and shiny. They had medium length hair, a good length to style. The hair on the back of the neck was shaved straight with no fluff. The men at the time would have slight side burns but nothing to over the top.
At the time there were 3 popular hairstyles- First was just all straight back- tops were combed over the crown and sides were combed down the head and angled to the back of the crown. The second option was parted directly in the center or slightly off center- whichever parting was most handsome. The third option was a deeper part on one side. It was common during the teens and less common going into the 20s but sometimes a necessary style for men with thinning hair- aka the comb over. It was also more flattering on a round mans face.
With this in mind I started to design two looks for my Emcee, keeping the look of Conrad Veidt who would of been his idol. The two looks I've designed on my face charts are the sleeked back look and the side part. I fell these two would suit the Emcee's overall look the best.
I tried the side part first on my model. However I just thought it didn't look right and didn't suit his face shape. It made him look like a choir boy instead of a creepy looking man. I had problems also with the hair sticking up on the sides. It would go flat the his head.
The second look I tried was the slick back hair style that didn't go right at all hair was sticking up and just wouldn't sit flat. It took a long time getting it to just loo half decent.
the hair was kind of flat but I still wasn't happy I knew I needed to go out and buy new hair products as my original lot just didn't work!

New products I brought - Black and white, toni &guy clay and Dax wave and groom. |
I spoke to my teacher and showed her what was happening and what products i had brought she recommend how to use them so I tried it again on my model.
- Wet his hair stand in front of him and blow dry it backwards till dry
- Run B&W wax through his hair like it's shampoo getting close to the roots
- comb backwards
- Add Dax on the back to any bits still sticking up
- Keeping combing using hand as well to press flat to head
- Spray front of hair with black hair spray afterwards.
This was the final result- I'm so happy with it it turned out way better than before.
I like it very much ! Nice post :)
